Goal:
Revamp eBay advertisements to generate more revenue.
“Refurbished electronics aren’t exactly the sexiest industry. How do you find more revenue in such a niche corner of the internet?”
The Problem:
Everyone likes to jazz up their sales pitch with words and images that hijack emotions or give the customer a sense of FOMO.
We don’t like this approach.
The ads were overstimulating and highlighted irrelevant information.
Potential customers had to dig through multiple layers of noisy and overstimulating content.
This made the purchasing decision long and arduous.
OUR Hypothesis:
The target audience didn’t need to be sold on something. They already had products in mind.
What they needed was help making a decision.
Given this information, we stripped the ads of irrelevant copy, and focused on providing only the necessary information needed to make a purchase.
OUR Process:
We trimmed down the noise, and focused on broadcasting a clean, focused signal to qualified leads.
For images, this involved standardizing format and composition. Given the B2B market, we knew most people already had an idea of what they we’re buying. We made sure to call attention specifically to those features.
For copy, this involved focusing on word economy and answering questions before they were asked. We removed any redundant word usage (to ensure clarity), and cut down on jargon and multi-syllable words (to navigate potential language barriers).
